Runa

Runa

This group performed for the first time together at the Shetland Folk Festival 2017, but at that point were nameless. Runa means “strong and mighty” in Old Norse and with this group you can expect powerful vocals, complimented with impressive musical prowess from some of Shetland’s most talented musicians.

Runa songs fall into the folk/country genre, with self-penned material from band members, Freda Leask and Sheila Henderson featuring, together with other carefully chosen songs. Freda and Sheila are both well-known Shetland singer-songwriters and while their songs and voices provide the focal point for the band, Runa is very much a group effort, being augmented by the skills of, Archer Kemp (Drums), Ivor “Fred” Polson (Bass and vocals), Kirsten Hendry (Fiddle and Vocals) and Trevor Smith (Acoustic/Electric Guitar).
