Laura Cortese and The Dance Cards

Laura Cortese and The Dance Cards

Hailing from San Francisco. Laura Cortese has built a distinguished career as a fiddler and vocalist following a path that led her to be one of the most in-demand musical partners and collaborators on the circuit while continuing to make her own music… and a big impact around the world.

Laura has enjoyed a busy touring-and-studio career, which included appearances with Band of Horses at Carnegie Hall and Pete Seeger at Newport Folk Festival. However, it is with her band, The Dance Cards, that she has made the biggest impression in recent times.  It’s bold and elegant, schooled in the lyrical rituals of folk music and backed by grooves that alternatively inspire Cajun two-stepping and rock ‘n’ roll swagger.

She is joined by accomplished musicians Valerie Thompson (cello/vocals) , Jenna Moynihan (fiddle/vocals) and Natalie Bohrn (bass/vocials) , whose sophisticated string arrangements and rich vocal harmonies pair with Cortese's poignant and powerful singing.

Seeing the quartet on stage, you get the sense that they might snap some fiddle strings or punch a hole in the bass drum. This is post-folk that seriously rocks.
