Brian Nicholson

As one of the hardest working men in local music circles, already famed for being a hugely important part of bands like Hom Bru, No Sweat, the Sheila Henderson Band and as one half of the nationally acclaimed duo with Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Champion Maggie Adamson, it was to much delight that top notch guitarist Brian Nicholson found the time to release his debut “solo” album in 2012 – Fae Da Crossroads.

Not only an all-encompassing musical tapestry that epitomizes Brian’s incredibly diverse approach to music making, his album is also a very personal snap-shot of what makes the man himself “tick” in this respect. Very much a Shetland album, almost all the songs Brian sings have local content with 15 of the 16 tracks either self penned or composed locally over the years. Indeed, half of his songs are sung entirely in Shetland dialect, many of them focused on his home island of Yell, including songs penned by the wonderful wordsmith that was Bobby Tulloch.

Audiences at the Shetland Dialect concert can look forward to an endearing selection of songs from this brilliant album by one of Shetland’s most accomplished and acclaimed musicians.
