Shetland Folk Dance

Shetland Folk Dance

Featuring a very dedicated group of dancers who practice fortnightly, Shetland Folkdance was originally established in 1992 to collect and preserve the traditional Shetland dances, relevant music and folk costume.

Throughout the year, the group perform at various local venues including the Islesburgh Exhibition, for visiting cruise liners and have participated in many national and international dance festivals.

The dancers’ costumes have obvious Norse resemblances whilst their dances have many similarities to those in Scandinavian countries.

At a number of previous events, they’ve performed alongside Shetland Fiddlers Society who themselves continue to uphold Shetland’s fiddle tradition in its purest format.
