Kansa

Kansa are an acoustic band compromising Karlyn Grains, Adam Priest, Stewart Grains, Robert, Wishart, Adrian Wishart and Norma Wishart.

Lead vocals are shared between Karlyn and Norma who produce both moving and driving melodies. They have been singing together informally for a number of years before gathering the band around them in 2007. Rhythm and bass are provided by both Adrian & Robert on guitar and mandolin and Adam on bass. Adam punctuates the sound with his rhythmical take on a double bass while also picking up the guitar now and again. Soulful accompaniment is provided by Stewart who brings his own superb Shetland fiddle influence to the bands sound. The main thing the band get from their music is a peerie fun playing the American music they have grown up listening to. Kansa had a busy year last year performing at the Shetland Folk Festival, Glusstonberry 2013, the Country Club Jamboree as well as supporting the Coal Porters when they performed here in July 2013.
