The Shetland Collective
The Shetland Collective (formerly The Gathering) formed to play at the 2013 Shetland Folk Festival as part of a collaborative project with musicians from Orkney.
Since then they have become a firm fixture in the festival in their own right. The band brings together some of Shetlands most well known singers and instrumentalists (of varying age and style) performing primarily music and songs from the islands.
The project has seen musicians from bands as diverse as Shoormal, Fiddlers Bid, Vair and The Cullivoe Dance band perform unique one-off interpretations of Shetland classics as well as specially composed sets and songs as part of their festival performance. Like last year, Vocalists such as Freda Leask and Sheila Henderson will combine with musicians like Ryan Couper, Ian Williamson and Andrew Gifford. Prepare for a mix of traditional, contemporary, energetic, reflective and heart-felt material that aims to reflect the best of Shetland's traditional music scene.
