Michelle Burke is an acclaimed singer from rural East Cork, Ireland. She has spent the best part of a decade living in Edinburgh where she has collaborated with many of the top artists working in the vibrant Scottish folk scene. Michelle is fast gaining a reputation as a solo artist and impressive interpreter of songs with a timelessly expressive, exquisitely nuanced voice. Her stunning album ‘Step Into My Parlour’ (which began life as an Edinburgh Fringe Festival show with her longtime musical partner James Ross) is a quirky mix of traditional and music hall songs which takes listeners back in time. The show and subsequent album were inspired by a dusty old scrapbook filled with songs and housekeeping tips which was owned by Michelle’s great-grandmother, and the concept has grown arms and legs in subsequent stagings with various guest musicians joining Michelle in her ‘parlour’. She visits Shetland Folk Festival with a trio of talent, namely James Ross on piano, Rick Taylor on trombone and Tia Files on guitar.
