Blazin' Fiddles
Having spent much of 2018 celebrating twenty years on the folk music scene, it’s more than high time we featured this six-piece hi-octane fiddle extravaganza at the Shetland Folk Festival!
Take a group of the hottest contemporary fiddle players from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, mix with some wonderfully sympathetic piano and guitar arrangements, and you’ve got Blazin’ Fiddles on your hands! Initially coming together as a one-off project for the Year of Highland Culture in 1998 to showcase the various styles of Highlands and Islands fiddle, the band has stood the test of time. They are now one of the most exciting and talked about folk bands in the country, and have achieved a number of prestigious accolades including MB ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards titles ‘Live Act of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Folk Band of the Year’.
Shetland-born Jenna Reid plays fiddle alongside founding member Bruce MacGregor, Rua Macmillan and Orkney’s Kristan Harvey. They are joined by Anna Massie on guitar and fiddle and Angus Lyon on piano.
In the past decade, no other band has quite captured Scottish fiddle music’s variety, energy and sensitivity like Blazin’ Fiddles. Whatever the hall – be it in a small village or London’s Royal Albert – this legendary, multi award-winning act never fails to set the hearts of their audiences alight.
We are delighted that Loganair are supporting Blazin' Fiddles first trip to the Festival.
