Hom Bru

Hom Bru

There's no way we could celebrate 40 years of the Shetland Folk Festival without an appearance by Festival favourites, Hom Bru who are going to gather some friends and former band members for a dedicated session in the Festival Club.

In 1980, the band based themselves in Edinburgh and subsequently toured all over Europe, including major festivals in Holland, Denmark, Germany, Italy and France. Very much based in Shetland now, Hom Bru still occasionally travel outside of the isles including appearances at Celtic Connections and the Orkney Folk Festival in recent years.

Hom Bru have an instantly recognisable sound, with their blistering use of mandolin and banjo as lead instruments. Their latest CD, 'No Afore Time' obtained excellent reviews including the following from the Living Tradition magazine 'The fire and attack that is brought to the livelier numbers does not come at the expense of sensitivity, with waltzes, slow airs and songs taking their place amongst the more fiery instrumentals"
