The four-piece are the latest product of Shetland Islands’ thriving folk scene but unlike their fiddling contemporaries, it is banjo, mandolin and guitar that take the lead with strong Irish and Americana influence added to their Scottish and Nordic heritage.

Scions of folk royalty, they comprise of some of the isle’s most prodigious talents, offering a mix of trad and contemporary tunes and songs in their own unique style.

The group got together at the behest of the late Davie Henderson for one of his infamous 'Spree weekends' back in 2012 after playing together in countless sessions and have since gone on to appear with acts such as JP Cormier, Tim Edey, Fiddlers Bid, Shooglenifty and Kris Drever.

They released their debut album, 'A Place in Time' in Spring 2017 at Shetland Folk Festival and made their Celtic Connections debut in 2016 to great acclaim. They returned to Celtic Connections in 2018 as part of Scottish Showcase week.

Vair are - Ryan Couper (guitar and mandolin), Erik Peterson (cajon, mandolin and vocals), Lewie Peterson (tenor banjo, mandolin and vocal) and Jonny Polson (guitar).
