The Goodbye Girls
The Goodbye Girls are an exciting new quartet from Boston brought together by a common love for old-time, traditional bluegrass and Swedish traditional music.
The four musicians from the US, Canada and Sweden are individually some of the best acoustic musicians on the Boston bluegrass scene, and together they create a sound that is exciting, fresh and full of energy. With international tours under their belt, and reaching No 1 on the Americana airplay direct charts,The Goodbye Girls are turning heads left, right and centre. Just last year, Molly Tuttle (guitar & lead vocals) won the prestigious Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association. Lena Jonsson (fiddle) tours with American fiddle legend Brittany Haas (who performed at the 2014 Shetland Folk Festival with Jordan Tice & Paul Kowert), and Allison de Groot (banjo) has toured all over the world, and is a member of Bruce Molksy’s exciting new trio ‘Molsky’s Mountain Drifters’. Completing the quartet is bassist Brittany Karlson, an adventurous musician with roots in jazz, folk and experimental music who studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. The band is dedicated to honouring the various styles of their musical roots, and together they are re-imagining the repertoire in a unique and exciting way. Making their UK debut at the Shetland Folk Festival, the band will bring their original balance of old and new material in a playful blend which may include anything from a raging old-time tune, a traditional bluegrass song or a Swedish polska.
