Willafjord

Willafjord

Willafjord Sessions was formed through, ‘having a tune’ at a house in Sandwick which is called Willafjord. The well known Greenland tune Willafjord features in their repertoire and is the tune the house was named after.

The band evolved as different invitations started arriving to play at local concerts, Sunday Teas, Shetland Wool Week and Taste of Shetland events. They have a varied repertoire including traditional Scottish, Shetland and Irish tunes and a touch of bluegrass. The group travelled to Orkney and took part in the Reel Trad Fest in October 2019 which they thoroughly enjoyed.  The focus is on the, ‘session’ so a laid back approach is at the forefront of Willafjord Sessions.

Band Members include Lewis Barclay on Tenor Banjo and Mandolin, Ally Morrison on Keyboards and Accordion, Liam Slater on fiddle and Ewan Hutcheson on fiddle

They also have Andrew Barclay from Orkney on Box drum and bagpipes when logisitics allow for them to be together! Adding to the whole nature of this exciting young ‘session’ band.
