Ciarán Ryan Band

Ciarán Ryan Band

Already a veteran performer having toured the world’s stages for a decade, Ciarán Ryan is quietly becoming recognised as one of the foremost tenor banjo players the UK has ever produced. With his own band, expect a high-octane spectacle of ferocious banjo led music and sheer instrumental brilliance.

Having already toured extensively as a founding member of world-folk band Dallahan, Ciaran Ryan continues to be a highly sought after session musician and is now making a name with his own live outfit.

“Ciarán Ryan Band” was formed in Edinburgh, Scotland following the release of his debut solo album "Banjaxed" in late 2019.

Not surprisingly, the album was shortlisted for "Album of the Year" at the Scots Trad Music Awards.  He's now bringing his prolific writing and stage experience firmly to the front with his own show of all-original music, loosely grown out of his traditional Irish music upbringing that nods towards the idioms of rock, EDM and post-punk music.

2024 will see the release and touring of their new album “Occupation Hazards”.  We were lucky to hear a sneak preview in 2023 and it's brilliant!

Joining Ciarán is accordion wizard Andrew Waite, Chris Waite on guitar, Bev Morris on bass and James MacIntosh on drums. Welcome to the Shetland Folk Festival guys - it's a long overdue visit.
