Ross Couper Band

Ross Couper Band

No stranger to the Shetland Folk Festival, we are extremely excited to welcome home Shetland born and bred Ross Couper and his incredible band of folk musicians.

Ross is a well-known fiddle virtuoso who has performed at multiple Shetland Folk Festivals through the years with his distinctive local style.  In fact, Ross has been pretty fundamental to many of our famous Festival sessions and late night Festival Club appearances, including with the likes of Shetland party band, Fullsceilidh Spelemannslag.

Over the past 15 years, Ross has become a firmly established face in the Scottish folk scene performing in duo format with the formidable Tom Oakes, with folk band Bodega and today his explosive fiddle playing lies at the heart of the mighty Peatbog Faeries – one of the best known names in Scotland’s contemporary folk scene.

At Celtic Connections in January 2023, the Ross Couper Band was born with Ross joined by the incredible Michael Biggins on piano (BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year for 2021) fellow Shetlander Paul Jennings on drums and percussion, and Sam Mabbett on melodeon.  What followed was multiple approaches to perform at various Festivals the length and breadth of the country and a week in the studio to record the band’s debut album in December 2023.

Knowing Ross well, it is no surprise to us that the band has already established a reputation for their distinctive energy and no holds barred approach.

This quartet of musicians are guaranteed to go down an absolute storm.  BRING IT ON!
