Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year

Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year

The Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year brings together many of Shetland’s talented young fiddlers to showcase their music just the weekend before the Shetland Folk Festival.

Contemporary and traditional Shetland tunes are performed by over 100 fiddlers aged six to sixteen before (2019 ) judges Linda Gair, Jennifer Wrigley and John Robert Deyell. Three age groups compete for an array of silverware and there is a winner for both the Open and Traditional section in each age group. In the senior age group the fiddler who performs best in both sections is awarded the prestigious title of Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year. We will feature winners from the competition at one of our concerts over the weekend.
