Herkja

Herkja

Herkja is an all-female close harmony group consisting of the solid line-up of Lana Elaine, Martha Thomson, Jenny Sturgeon and Lyn Anderson. They played an outstanding debut gig at the Folk Festival in 2018 and have been turning heads ever since.

Athough only formed four years ago, Herkja are already creating a stir as potentially one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the Shetland music scene in recent years.

Combining vocals and stunning harmonies with fiddle, accordion, piano and harmonium, they focus on contemporary and traditional folk songs, and tunes, with Scottish, Irish and Scandinavian influences.   They released a solid 5 track EP late in 2019, showcasing a fantastic mixture of traditional tunes, songs and orignal material as well as first class harmonies!

In late 2021, they presented a new music commission and collection of music alongside Shetland's audio and visual heritage - celebrating crofting, fishing and the crafting tradition.

We're very excited to have them back at the Festival this year and they will perform as part of our big Saturday Clickimin concert.
