Cullivoe Fiddlers

The Cullivoe style of fiddling can be traced back over 100 years.

The distinctive sound of the local tunes, mostly reels, derives from the unusual tuning of the fiddle. ADAE instead of the usual GDAE, known locally as the 'high bass'. The lively bowing style also plays a part in their sound. The Cullivoe Fiddlers have enjoyed many revivals over the years and have more recently acheived a higher profile through trips to Faroe and Sweden. They have performed regularly at events around Shetland including Fiddle Frenzy.

The Cullivoe Fiddlers play music learned from their forefathers with great care and respect. This tradition has kept feet flying and faces smiling around the fire for more than one hundred years, and long may it continue to do so.
