Good Guy Hank

Good Guy Hank

From the harmonious heartlands of Scotland and the musical metropolis of Melbourne, Good Guy Hank brings a rich blend of soulful storytelling, powerful three-part harmonies, and masterful musicianship to the stage.

This alternative Americana act fuses the heartache and joy of bluegrass, country, and folk, creating a sound that’s as electrifying as it is heartfelt. With influences spanning from Hank Williams and Gillian Welch to Calexico and Drive-By Truckers, their music weaves together heartfelt lyrics, lively rhythms, and dynamic instrumentation that will have you dancing, singing, and even shedding a tear.

Four musicians will be travelling to Shetland as part of Good Guy Hank: Donny McElligott on guitar and vocals from Scottish Americana favorites The New Madrids; Theo Barnard on double bass, guitar, and vocals, who is key player in Scotland’s raucous bluegrass band Wire & Wool; Pepita Emmerichs on fiddle, mandolin, and vocals from the acclaimed Australian indie-pop duo Oh Pep!; and James Mackintosh on percussion, who is no stranger to Shetland having previously performed with acts like Shooglenifty and Ciaran Ryan Band.

Good Guy Hank showcases a blend of talents that bring energy and authenticity to every performance. With support secured from Creative Scotland, their recent album release, Silver Lining, is packed with “blistering bluegrass,” “lightning mandolin,” and “virtuoso fiddle playing”—a true testament to their dynamic sound and spirited style.

With their signature mix of country beats, soulful voices, and fiery instrumentals, Good Guy Hank brings a unique Americana sound that captivates audiences, celebrates the shared musical roots of Scotland and Australia. We think they are sure to go down an absolute storm with Shetland audiences.
