Bon Débarras
Bon Débarras is a trio of fantastic Montreal-based instrumentalists who play music that is forged in the traditions of French-Canada, fused with modern day influences of their very multicultural home. Bringing together a blend of Quebecois folk music, traditional step dancing and global influences, their show is full of fun and inventive energy.
The result is original roots music, part neo-folklore and part world music, pulsing with the driving beat of podorythmie (a traditional style of French-Canadian foot percussion). Add ukulele, banjo, guitar, bass, fiddle, stomping, washboards, harmonica and bunch of other things including traditional step dancing, and you have a remarkable sound that stretches back to the 17th century, but which is very much part of the 21st. The band members travelling to Shetland are Dominic Desrochers, Jean-François Dumas and Véronique Plasse.
Their blend of haunting ballads, original compositions, traditional pieces and some a cappella tap into modern rhythms in an atmosphere that transcends boundaries and ages.
