Elephant Sessions
They’re back!! Following their hugely popular performances at the Shetland Folk Festival in 2016, we are delighted to welcome the return of neo-trad quintet Elephant Sessions and their explosion of indie folk to our stages once more!
The band hails from the Scottish Highlands and came together at Newcastle University where some members were studying. Drawing on influences from many different genres, they create a progressive blend of intricate tunes, engulfing guitars, monstrous bass and pounding drums.
Elephant Sessions recently collected their third major award in a year when they laid claim to the coveted title of ‘Live Act of the Year’ at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. In 2017 they won ‘Album of the Year’ Award at the same awards. 2018 also saw them achieve the first ever Belhaven Bursary for innovation in Scottish music. And it doesn’t look like things will be settling down for the lads any time soon - their gig diary for 2019 is filling fast and includes trips to Australia, USA and Europe.
The band members are Euan Smillie (fiddle), Mark Bruce (electric and acoustic guitar), Greg Barry (drums), Alasdair Taylor (mandolin) and Seth Tinsley (bass).
Their infectious and energetic sound which takes traditional Scottish music to new levels has resulted in marquee floors breaking under the weight of bouncing fans – don’t miss them!!
