Scott Wood Band

Described as “a collaboration of the most promising young Scottish Musicians”, and fronted by one of the world’s leading young bagpipers, The Scott Wood Band features finalists from the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year and BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competitions.

Bursting on to the Scottish Music scene at the 2014 Celtic Connections Festival Club, the bagpipe-driven Scott Wood Band are set to bring their explosively energetic live show to the Shetland Folk Festival. The band was developed from the critically acclaimed Scott Wood Trio, who were nominated for ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’ at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards in 2013. All six members of the band - Scott Wood (bagpipes, whistles), Mhairi Marwick (fiddle), Ron Jappy (guitar), Angus Tikka (bass guitar), Davie Dunsmuir (electric guitar) and Mark Scobbie (drums) – are graduates of Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and have individually performed at shows in every continent on the globe…with the exception of Antarctica!  Their success was also recognised with a nomination for the prestigious 'Folk Band of the Year' category at the 2014 BBC MG Alba Scots Trad Awards.
