The Langan Band
Glasgow power-trio The Langan Band create a dynamic sound that is rooted in Celtic Folk but encompasses Balkan, Roma and Flamenco elements, fuelled by a visceral punk spirit.
After having travelled the world honing his craft, frontman, vocalist and guitarist John Langan found like-minded musicians Dave Tunstall (double bass, vocals) and Alastair Caplin (fiddle, mandolin) in his native Glasgow. Since then they have been wowing audiences with their high-energy blend of vocals, musicianship and Langan’s songwriting. Since becoming Danny Kyle Award winners at Celtic Connections Festival, the band have toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally, and gained themselves a large and loyal fan base along the way. With a deceptively stripped down line-up of vocals, guitar, fiddle, bass and percussion, The John Langan Band never fail to get the crowd dancing. They are as much at home on a huge festival stage playing to thousands of people as they are playing an intimate village hall. According to Acoustic Magazine, “your foot may start to tap, your fist may rise into the air, and it’s hard to resist leaping up and dancing”. Don’t miss this trio bringing some folk frenzy and balkanesque madness to the Shetland Folk Festival.
