A four-piece act from Belgium featuring 4 mandolin players, MANdolinMAN was formed in 2011 by Andries Boone to dedicate music to the work of his father, Hubert Boone. Joining fellow mandolinists Peter-Jan Daems, Dirk Naessens and Maarten Decombel, their first album – “Old Tunes, Dusted Down” was very much a concept album in order to bring Hubert Boone’s music to life. Performing Flemish Folk tunes in a very original way, the music on this album is timeless and universal.
Since then, the four piece has taken on the challenge of exploring yet another musical style: Bossa Nova and released a second album showcasing their unique take on the sound of Brazil. As well as performing Bossa Nova classics, the album also features some self-penned compositions. Definitely the first time an all mandolin band has been booked for the Shetland Folk Festival, we’re sure our discerning audiences will hugely appreciate these first class musicians.
