Saltfishforty
For more than a decade now, the Orcadian duo of Douglas Montgomery (fiddle/viola) and Brian Cromarty (Vocals/Guitar/Mandola) have been combining the rich traditional music of Orkney with original contemporary compositions. No strangers to the Shetland Folk Festival, Saltfishforty are back but this time as a five piece.

For more than a decade now, the Orcadian duo of Douglas Montgomery (fiddle/viola) and Brian Cromarty (Vocals/Guitar/Mandola) have been combining the rich traditional music of Orkney with original contemporary compositions. Paving the way for a tidal wave of great things to come, they released their debut album, Goose Music, to critical acclaim in 2003. This was followed by Orkney Twister in 2005 and Netherbow in 2010, both meeting similarly unanimous praise.
As well as being in high demand on the UK Festival scene, they have performed at events all over the world including in Spain, France, Ireland, Belgium, Norway, the USA and Canada - wowing audiences all over with their infectious and feisty rhythms. They’ve collaborated with some of the other big names from the UK Folk scene too, including Spiers and Boden who were twice winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for best duo.
Joining them in Shetland will be percussionist Eric Laughton, Andrew Gifford on Bass and accordion wizard, Billy Peace. The five-piece are currently working on a new album, which will hopefully be printed in time for the 34th Shetland Folk Festival.
