Nordic Fiddlers Bloc
Representing three of the richest fiddle traditions in the world - Norway, Sweden and Shetland - this trio are finding themselves increasingly in demand across the world due to their unique collaboration and onstage sense of humour and banter.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc are Olav Luksengård Mjelva from Norway, Anders Hall from Sweden and Shetland’s very own Kevin Henderson.
Individually, these musicians are regarded as three of the finest young fiddle players of the current international folk circuit, while collectively they are finding themselves increasingly in demand across the world due to their unique collaboration and onstage sense of humour and banter.
Norway, Sweden and Shetland have three of the richest fiddle traditions in the world. With documented historical links going back hundreds of years, Nordic Fiddlers Bloc are seeking to ensure these links and traditions are kept alive whilst having mutual respect for each other’s playing and traditions. Whilst blending the three individual Nordic styles, they still allow the distinct traditions to come through in a sound that is unique, intense and invigorating.
Anders and Olav last appeared at the Festival with Sver in 2011 and it is fantastic to welcome them, and of course Kevin, back once more.
