An Evening with Dougie MacLean - Mareel, Lerwick

Join us for this opening concert, where in addition to the Festival's short opening speeches, you can see two 45 minute sets by the Scottish folk legend that is Dougie MacLean supported by one of Shetland's most promising up and coming bands, Skelburn. This is a seated concert to be held in the purpose built music auditorium at Mareel, using the raked/tiered seating. There will be limited Mareel balcony tickets that you can purchase separately. Like all of our concerts, seating will be unallocated so please follow the direction of our helpful volunteers. This event will finish no later as 10.30pm and attendees will be encouraged to go to the bar/use the facilities during the scheduled interval(s).

Cunningsburgh Concert

This is a seated concert in a rural hall in the village of Cunningsburgh in the South Mainland, about a 15 minute drive from Lerwick. Seating is unallocated and will be arranged in rows facing the stage. Bar facilities will be available and this concert is scheduled to finish around 10.30pm. We reserve the right to alter line ups as circumstances may dictate.

Da Big Kirk Concert - St. Columba's Church

A special concert, with a singing focus, held in the beautiful St Columba's Church in Lerwick on the opening night of the Festival. Seating is unallocated and downstairs the chairs are arranged in rows. There is additional seating upstairs in pews but because it is not disabled access friendly, please let us know in advance if you absolutely require seating on the lower level and this will be arranged. The concert will finish no later as 10pm and there will be no bar facilities at this concert.

      Jonny will be on the spot with his cocktails from 3-6pm in the Festival Club Bar, Room 12.

        Willafjord session - Festival Club (Islesburgh), LerwickSFFS Members Only

        This is a youth-led session with young band Willafjord in Room 11. All welcome to join in.

        Mid Yell ConcertFerry Crossing Required

        A concert in one of Shetland's rural halls on the island of Yell - in the settlement of Mid Yell. Seating is unallocated and will be arranged in rows. Bar facilities will be available.
        This concert requires a ferry crossing, with bookings made though the local authority's ferry booking office. We reserve the right to alter line ups as circumstances may dictate.
        PLEASE NOTE - we are hoping to secure an additional late ferry for our artists and sound operators departing Ulsta at 12.30am (TBC) and it will be possible for concert goers to book space on this ferry too. Booking is essential and the Ferry Booking Office phone number is 01595 745804 (although it might only be possible to book space nearer the Festival time).         Friday Clickimin Concert - Clickimin Centre, Lerwick

        This concert will absolutely make you think Thank Folk it's Friday! This is an all seated concert in the main hall of the Clickimin leisure complex in Lerwick. This venue has an extensive lighting rig installed for Festival concerts so a range of lighting effects could be used throughout. Bar facilities will be available and the concert will finish no later as 10.45pm. Seating is unallocated and will predominantly be arranged with tables but there is some raked/tiered seating at the back of the main hall. As this is a larger capacity venue, we will open doors 1 hour before the concert starts. Entry to concert will be through the events side door - not the main reception area of the Clickimin Leisure Centre. We will ensure that this is clearly signposted. We reserve the right to alter line ups as circumstances may dictate.

        Ringin' Strings - A celebration of fiddle music - Mareel, Lerwick

        This concert has been deliberately programmed to celebrate fiddle music, which is so instrumental to Shetland's musical heritage and indeed the very reason that the Shetland Folk Festival was originally formed. As well as showcasing some fiddle music from Orkney and Finland, we are proud to showcase two Shetland fiddle acts including Shetland's Heritage Fiddlers who are also celebrating 40 years. The winning sets from this year's Young Fiddler of the Year competition concert will also be performed. Bar facilities will be available and table service will be available for the cabaret seating downstairs in the Mareel auditorium. There will be limited balcony seating available to purchase separately. As with all our concerts, seating is unallocated. This concert is scheduled to finish around 10.45pm.         Friday Legion (Lates) - Lerwick British Legion

        A new event for 2022, we are introducing the Legion Lates which is the place to be if you love party bands and dancing! The Legion Lates are the only Festival ticketed events this year that are predominantly standing and there to entice you to dance! First Foot Soldiers and Rack n Ruin are both hugely popular with Shetland audiences and we welcome the opportunity to showcase them once more and to give everyone a chance to let off some steam. Bar Facilities are available and this event is OVER 18s ONLY. No concession ticket price available. We reserve the right to alter line ups as circumstances may dictate.

              60 Years o' da Shetland Fiddlers - Exhibition Concert - Shetland Museum

              Afternoon Concert

              We are so pleased that the Shetland Fiddlers Society have arranged this Fringe Event to help celebrate their 60th anniversary, which will feature an exclusive interview with Aly Bain. Tickets are priced at £10 and are available through an eventbrite link. There will be 100 tickets in the auditorium and 100 tickets available for an online stream. It is envisaged that this event will be concluded by 3.30pm
