New Tradition

New Tradition members are the pupils of Jim Leask and Bernadette Porter, ranging in age from 9 to 18 years and come mainly from the North, East and West of Shetland, hence the name N E W Tradition.

They also have other string players such as guitars, base and ukele, mandolin and anything else as and when required, trying to accommodate anyone who wants to play with others on a regular basis. Performing over 15 years now, many of their former members have gone on to play in their own bands, such as Gemma Donald, Helen Whitham, Laura Lockyer, Maggie Adamson, Frances Hutchison, Vicky Gray, Neil Georgeson, and many more.

The group is constantly changing as pupils move and form their own bands. New Tradition gives them confidence and experience and friendship. Over the years we have performed in Norway, Faroe, Orkney, Scotland and more recently Grantham. They will appear as one of the acts in this year's Youth Event on Saturday afternoon.
