Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller

Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller

Shining new stars on the UK folk scene, Jeana Leslie and Siobhan Miller are two extremely talented and multi award winning Scottish singers and musicians, with their status firmly and consistently in the ascent.

Most recently, Siobhan scooped the Citty Finlayson Scots Singer of the Year 2011 award at the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Prior to that the duo won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2008 – the same year as winning Best Up and Coming Artist in the MG Alba Awards, as well as picking up a host of other awards and nominations.

Jeana, from Orkney, and Siobhan, from Penicuik, Midlothian, primarily perform Scottish song, incorporating fiddle, piano and Scottish stepdance into their sets. Both blessed with stunning natural voices that blend beautifully, critics and audiences alike have responded warmly to the duo’s fresh approach to vocal arrangements and their open, communicative personalities onstage.

Both graduates of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2010, the duo have already toured to great acclaim throughout the UK and Europe. Their debut album In A Bleeze, released on Greentrax and the follow up Shadow’s Tall have both garnered positive reviews whilst their live performance at Celtic Connections in 2011 received a five star review in The Scotsman.

Individually they are musicians in very high demand; Jeana plays in Cara, an Irish folk band based in Germany with a gruelling tour schedule whilst Siobhan undertakes a number of solo projects. Siobhan appeared on Phil Cunningham’s Hogmanay Live TV show, broadcast live to the UK and online over the turn of 2010/11, and performed nightly on Broadway in May 2011 in the theatre show Peter and Wendy, under the musical direction of Alan Kelly.

Jeana and Siobhan will perform in Shetland halfway through their biggest tour to date, kicking off in early April and playing throughout the UK in April and May, culminating at the Orkney Folk Festival in early June. Old Blind Dogs band member Aaron Jones will accompany them on guitar.
