Maggie Adamson is one of Shetland’s most celebrated traditional fiddlers, renowned for her exquisite playing. Her unique style has earned her a lot of admiration and respect from music lovers and fellow musicians alike.
Not just content with being current 'Shetland Sportsperson of the Year' for her sailing exploits, Maggie Adamson also happens to be one of Shetland's finest fiddle players, with countless awards under her belt including Glenfiddich Championships, Danny Kyle Awards and Trad Awards nominations.
Influenced by classical, jazz and traditional sounds, she has performed all over the world in her own right but also touring with legendary singer, Donnie Munro, and various dance and swing bands throughout her career. In recent years she has also taken part in the Between Islands collaboration between artists from Shetland, Orkney and Western Isles.
Over the years, Maggie has recorded five albums with renowned local guitarist, Brian Nicholson, showcasing their dynamic musical partnership. These days, she’s been playing with Kirsten Gifford on keys and Arthur Nicholson on guitar, continuing to create beautiful, resonant tunes.
As mentioned, Maggie's time at sea has kept her away from the Festival in recent years but we are delighted to have her back for 2026 alongside her fantastic backing band musicians.
